Our client was unable to use their garden for over a year due to a very large dead stem which overhung the boundary and into their garden from the neighbours Oak tree. The stem weighing around 1 tonne was incredibly wobbly and precarious.

After being told by another tree surgeon that it was not possible without access to the neighbours garden, our client was then on the hunt for a tree surgeon Hertford. After narrowing their down for their search of a tree surgeon Hertford they came across KW Tree Care who are expert tree surgeons.

The tree had a TPO (Tree Preservation Order) so an emergency application had to be submitted by us to the council to allow for partial removal. This expedited process allows us to work on the tree with 5 days notice as oppose to the normal 8 weeks. As this presented a genuine risk to life, the council were happy for us to go ahead with the works. This is where we excel as a tree surgeon. A large part of being a tree surgeon is submitting planning and searching council records.

This is another situation where it is vitally important that the tree surgeon has a good working relationship with the local tree officer. A tree surgeon who has upset the local authority by not seeking planning appropriately previously can make the end clients life just that little bit harder. A good tree surgeon will always seek the appropriate permissions.

The trouble was the tree was not safe for our arborist to climb, so we had to figure out a plan to both ensure the safety of staff and prevent damage to property. Normally you would propose a spider MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) but given the tiny access available, this was not possible. 

Instead we used our contacts at Smart Platforms and hired their 18 tonne, 35 meter MEWP. We were a bit worried that it may not reach given the tight access on the drive, houses to avoid as well as other protected trees. The tree was 3 gardens away from the driveway so it was a true spectacle to see the MEWP boomed out over 24 meters laterally with a tree surgeon or two in the basket!

All works safely completed and wrapped up by 11am, allowing the client to have the Grandchildren back in the garden without the fear of the tree shedding a limb. Their kind comments and most importantly cake makes the life of a tree surgeon just that little bit better!
