When we started the business back in 2016 me and Adam said we wanted to do things differently.
As climate change is ever more present in our minds and day to day life we asked ourselves could we do more? The answer was yes.
Unfortunately, the industry we are in often means we have to fell/remove trees, reducing the global output of oxygen and sequestration of carbon dioxide. Now, it’s not always possible to find alternatives, if a housing project needs the trees removed as part of the permitted development, they have to go no matter what. In domestic situations we can sometimes offer solutions with pruning that means trees are retained, but in smaller dimensions! Again, sometimes the tree is so large in such a small garden that pruning severely enough to achieve the client’s goals would be unrealistic. It may end up damaging the health of the tree, promote regrowth from weak unions meaning cyclical pruning would be required for the life of the tree, or just plainly leaving an ugly tree.
In these instances, we can suggest possible options for replanting with a species that has a much smaller final height or a more narrow crown spread. We love planting trees and are happy to discuss different species all day long!
In 2020 we had a major change of company policy. We announced that for every tree we fell, we will fund the planting of 2 more. So far in 2021 we have surpassed this promise 10 to 1! Planting over 3400 trees in our first year. Further to this, we offset all of our carbon emissions produced from driving to jobs and running chainsaws allowing us to be a carbon-neutral company. Our goal by 2025 is to be climate positive.
